Graduate Assistant Job Description

榶心vlog the Innovation in Learning Center (ILC)

The ILC was founded in 2011 with a mission of supporting teaching and learning at South Alabama through faculty professional development and integrated learning technologies.

Our goal is to improve the quality of learning at South by promoting a culture of innovation in which faculty, staff, and students participate collaboratively in creative teaching and learning experiences. Graduate assistants at the ILC serve with the professional staff and contribute to the mission by:

  • Becoming fluent in the use of online learning technologies such as Canvas/USAonline, Panopto, and Zoom.
  • Demonstrating the ability to navigate seamlessly between applications in the Google workplace suite (Docs, Slides, Sheets, Drive).
  • Creating instructional materials for faculty and staff development on existing and emerging technologies and techniques
  • Serving as consultants to faculty with questions related to the application of learning technologies.
  • Supporting ILC programs and activities such as New Faculty Orientation, CoTL, SGIF, Thank-a-Teacher, instructional workshops, and mini-courses.
  • Consistently demonstrating independent thought, problem-solving, and professionalism in their work.

Application Procedures

Students from all doctoral programs at South Alabama are welcome to apply. However, it is important to note that your area of study, research interests and future career interests should align with the ILC鈥檚 goals. On rare occasions, students enrolled in Masters programs will receive consideration. Assistantships are renewable annually. To renew your assistantship, you will need to re-apply by the deadline. Your annual evaluation will substitute for the letters of recommendation.

Paperwork to be completed

  • Cover Letter connecting the applicant鈥檚 interests, aptitude and skills to the ILC鈥檚 programs and goals

  • Three Letters of Recommendation attesting to the candidate鈥檚 knowledge base, work experience and ethic and potential for growth through the ILC鈥檚 programs

  • Resume listing relevant academic and employment experiences

Graduate Assistant Responsibilities

Graduate Assistants at the ILC are actively involved in supporting the ILC activities outlined above. Graduate assistants also have the opportunity to contribute to the scholarly work of the ILC.

Dates of Employment and Compensation

  • GAs are expected to work during Fall, Spring, and Summer semesters following the university鈥檚 academic calendar.

  • Stipend of $18,000 (Doctoral) and $15,000 (Masters) paid biweekly for Fall, Spring, Summer semesters.

  • Tuition waiver up to 10 credit hours per semester.

  • Time commitment of 20 hours a week, usually spread over 3 days.

Pursuant to University guidelines, all graduate assistants will be required to work on-campus at the Innovation in Learning Center. All safety precautions and University policies must be followed to ensure a safe and productive work environment.
