Sharon Hudson - USA Piano Camp Faculty Recital June 14 (3:00)

Dr. Sharon Hudson will perform the second of four Piano Camp Faculty Recitals on Tuesday, June 14 at 3:00 p.m. in the Laidlaw Performing Arts Center Recital Hall. The emphasis of this year's piano camp is American Music, hence all of the faculty will be concentrating their performance efforts in this area. Dr. Hudson's program will feature Charles Ives' Piano Sonata No. 2, "Concord, Mass., 1840-1860." The work will include collaboration with guest flutist Nicole Carrion.
Tickets for this Department of Music event will be sold at the door only. General admission is $5 for all attendees other than Piano Workshop participants. MAS passes will be honored for these concerts. Dr. Sharon Hudson joined the University of Mobile music faculty in 2010, where she teaches piano and theory and taught previously at the University of South Alabama and at Brescia University (KY). She received her MM and DMA degrees from the University of Illinois, where she was awarded teaching, research, and accompanying assistantships. There, she won the 21st Century Piano Commission contest in 2002 and played frequently with the New Music Ensemble. An avid performer of new music, recent performances have included Schoenberg鈥檚 Pierrot Lunaire with Mihaela Buhaiciuc, songs of Poulenc and Larsen with Kathryn Hedlund. and Antheil鈥檚 Ballet m茅canique with the U of I Percussion Ensemble.
Flutist Nicole Carrion is presently a major in Flute Performance at the University of South Alabama. Ms. Carrion has performed extensively as the principal flutist of the USA Wind Ensemble, the USA Symphony Orchestra, the USA Flute Choir and is also a member of USA's Celtic Crue.
